Germany’s Red Arrow Entertainment Group, part of Munich-based broadcasting groupProSiebenSat.1, acquired a majority stake in Dorsey Pictures, producer of such shows as “The Treehouse Guys” (pictured), in January 2016.
For Red Arrow chairman and CEO Jan Frouman, it was the ideal match. “It’s a terrific team: the founder of the business, the whole team behind the productions. We just felt an instant compatibility.” The move expands Red Arrow’s U.S. production activities to outdoor adventure programming and branded entertainment in a big way.
Frouman says Chris Dorsey’s experience with branded entertainment is enriching Red Arrow’s skill set. “I think the group will profit from that drive and know-how and experience.”
Red Arrow is already exploring opportunities with Dorsey in the digital landscape. Frouman explains: “A player who has existing brand relationships, a real core competence, and an enormous footage library from the thousands plus hours of programming they’ve produced, and the ability to target a clear, extremely valuable audience with that — that’s a compelling proposition.”
Red Arrow established Ripple Entertainment in 2015 to create digital destination networks and collaborate with creators within Red Arrow group. It will work with Dorsey Pictures.
“You’ve got a prolific, focused producer who is operating in a valuable market space and telling consistent stories, you have a team whose reason for being is creating digital assets; and you have loads of pre-existing brand relationships. You put those things together and you have the makings of a digital destination,” says Frouman.
